Young Mothers Graduation - Ninth Batch

Today EBLI joyously celebrated the ninth batch of young mothers to graduate from EBLI computer literacy and business skills training. A total of 39 young mothers successfully completed all requirements and received their certificates in what was a very colorful graduation ceremony.

During the four-month long computer course, young mothers learned the following programs: Introduction to computers, Microsoft Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, as well as Internet, email and typing speed. This culminated in a week of exams that tested the young mothers' proficiency in each of those concepts and applications.

Following the completion of computer training, the young mothers entered into a three-week business curriculum to equip young mothers with the knowledge and tools for how to apply for and attain employment, and how to choose, plan and run a successful enterprise, be it individually or as a group. Four comprehensive group business plans were written, covering sectors such as tailoring/sewing, event decorating and farming. A fifth group of young women focused on employment drafted individual cover letters and curriculum vitae (C.V.) which they will leverage to apply for jobs. All young mothers took a business exam to test their competency across all subjects taught.

EBLI was delighted to have members of the Aga Khan Isamili Women's Community serve as the graduation's guest of honor. Also seated at the head table was a representative from Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) who was present to inaugurate the newly renovated computer classroom thanks to funds and computer equipment generously donated by the organization. Finally, we were also joined by Markus Bütler from terre des hommes schweiz.
