The13th batch of youth have embarked on EBLI’s Computer Literacy Program. 90% of the students are young mothers from resource poor communities. They are delighted that EBLI believes in their future and in offering vulnerable youth a second shot at education. On Friday, 24th November 2017, we celebrated with our students and their relatives at Education for Better Living Organization (EBLI). The first class of students, who were enrolled in EBLI's Secondary Education program, had finished their examination. After two years of studiyng, having good times and hard times, they were all just in celebration mood. EBLI's Executive Director, Mr. Bernard Makachia, remembered them, that even if they may have passed the National Examination successfully or not, all of them have learned a lot about themselves, gained self confidence and could improve their life skills. But for sure, we are all waiting impatiently to know the results of the National Examination in Secondary Education, which should be announced in February 2018.
After two years of intensive preparations, EBLI students are ready to engage in the National Examination for the Form IV certificate of Secondary Education, starting on October 30th, 2017. Our best wishes and good luck to all of them, as they go out there to make us proud!
Today we celebrated the Graduation of the 12th class of Young Mothers Computer Literacy at EBLI. 51 students received their certificates today, as well as 6 students of Steve Pope's English class. The students thrilled the audience with shows, dances, songs and speeches.
We thank all teachers - but today especially SongYi Yoo - staff members of EBLI, Terre des Hommes Schweiz and Bernard Makachia for their support and hard work and all students for their effort and passion in learning. We wish you all good luck and all the best for the future! Saying goodbye is one of the hardest things to do particularly to a person you have worked with for a considerable time and years. On October 18th, 2017, EBLI had a goodbye lunch to bid farewell to SongYi Yoo a KOICA volunteer who worked for two and half years at EBLI. Song as we popularly called her has trained 200 young mothers in computer literacy and was also responsible for the upgrading of the Computer lab. Our prayers and thoughts will accompany her as she embarks on another journey in her life back in Korea.
As we celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child, EBLI believes that everybody deserves a second chance. Especially the girls who have dropped from the school system due to pregnancy.
During the month of September 2017, young mothers participated in EBLI's entrepreneurship program and learned business skills such as accounting, correspondence, record keeping and communication. Lucy Metha and her team not only taught the participants knowledge but also highly inspired them to start their own business!
Young people and their teachers are attending the second phase of "Youth Choose Life" workshop at EBLI offices. This week long workshop is meant to capacitate them with skills and attitudes of working with their peers in the school clubs in their respective schools.
Lucy Metha and Elizabeth John were facilitating a two day business refresher course for young mothers who have opted to self employee themselves. The aim of the training was to share challenges and how to overcome them by using a Solution Focused Approach. 55 young mothers took part in the course at EBLI.
